What is endoscopy?

Endoscopy is a nonsurgical procedure used to examine a person's digestive tract. Using an endoscope, a flexible tube with a light and camera attached to it, your doctor can view pictures of your digestive tract on a color TV monitor.

  • How do I become a patient?
    To become a patient of Dr. Joy's your family doctor must refer you to his practice. Since Dr. Joy is a specialist he can only accept patients that have general surgery issues.
  • Do I need an appointment?
    Yes, you need an appointment to see Dr. Joy.
  • What should I expect during my first appointment?
    At your first appointment Dr. Joy will take the time to hear your medical history, understand your symptoms that brought you to see him, and ask about your current medications. After that Dr. Joy will make recommendations for your care plan moving forward and you will decide together what treatment you would like to pursue.
  • What information should I bring to my first appointment?
    To your first appointment you should bring a list of your current medications.
  • What are your wait times like?
    Our wait times are dependant on the severity of the illness of the patient. Once we recieve your referral, Dr. Joy needs to review it, and then we can schedule you for a consultation appointment. He will assign a triage level to your referral which determines how quickly you will be see. Typical wait times for a consultations and procedures are:
